Impact Report 2025

Because of you, hundreds of animals found safety, care and loving homes!

Serving animals in South Simcoe County for over 37 years!

Because of our supporters, volunteers, staff and foster families, hundreds of animals received lifesaving care and second chances this year.

Your generosity made this impact possible. As a not-for-profit organization, ADHS operates entirely on community donations and receives no government funding. Every adoption, medical treatment and rescue is made possible by supporters like you.

Your donations help provide:

  • Veterinary Treatment
  • Spay & neuter surgeries
  • Emergency medical care
  • Shelter and food
  • Animal rehabilitation
  • Foster support program

Rising Need in Our Community

Animal shelters across Canada are facing unprecedented demand. In South Simcoe County, ADHS has seen a dramatic rise in abandoned and surrendered animals since the pandemic.

In the past two years we have experienced:

  • A 100 percent increase in dog abandonments and more demand for canine shelter than we can meet
  • More animals arriving pregnant or with litters
  • Many animals unspayed or unneutered
  • Increased cases of serious medical conditions

As the pound for several municipalities, we are also seeing more stray animals. In previous years, 60–75% of stray dogs were reunited with their owners. In 2025 that number dropped to just 30%, meaning many more animals now rely on our shelter for care and adoption.

Despite these challenges, ADHS continues to maintain its no-kill commitment thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Over the past five years our euthanasia rate has remained only 2–3%, and only when recommended by a veterinarian for humane medical reasons.
