We provide the food, YOU provide the love. A foster home provides one of our animals with a temporary home where it can feel like a valued family member. Foster homes not only spare animals from the stress of confinement in a cage in our shelter, but also provides them with a loving home environment and adequate socialization, which makes them more adoptable.
Most of our rescued animals stay in foster homes until adoption. Fostering can be the most rewarding and fulfilling experience for you! By fostering, you are helping to save the life of an unwanted animal. Fostering also gives you and/or your own pets the benefit of pet companionship without the worries of permanent ownership! There are also times when short-term medication foster homes are needed.
Often the types of dogs we need foster homes for are:
If you are open to taking any of the above types of dogs, please let us know in your application!
Many of our dogs have special needs including no children or other animals in the home, a fenced area, or a strong handler. Some of our dogs are huge breeds that require big dog experience while others have specific medical needs. Our goal is to choose the correct foster home for the dog. Please do not be offended if you do not hear back from us! We are a 98% volunteer organization and are understaffed at this time and if you don't hear from us please feel free to check back in with us down the road.
With the holiday season now upon us, it's time for our annual 'Holiday Supply Drive' in support of the Alliston & District Humane Society.
If you are able to and would like to help the homeless animals in our community this holiday, please consider picking up an extra item (or two) for the shelter!
