Are you deeply committed to helping our community's homeless animals? Are you trying to find ways to give back that matter? If so, you might be a fantastic addition to our organization!
At Alliston & District Humane Society, we believe that every pet deserves a safe, loving, and permanent home. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to provide the best care possible for the animals in our care, while they are waiting to find their forever homes.
By volunteering your time, expertise, and abilities you can help the animals and our organization thrive!
How You Can Help
We are always looking for shift volunteers in all animal areas. The following specific jobs and skills are also needed!
Professional Animal Experience
- Dog walkers with experience with large dogs. Dog training and handling experience would be an asset
- Cat team members with cat experience willing to take on cat administration jobs like cat socialization, adoptions, foster home management, kitten program tasks, and data entry
- Foster home experience and willingness to coach and assist fosters in all animal areas
- Previous shelter experience in any area
Fundraising, Design & Marketing
- Marketing and graphic design
- Event planning – experience with managing community events and a professional gala is particularly desirable
- Fundraising and promotion including volunteers willing to participate in humane education community visits and community events
- Social media management – willingness to monitor our social media and respond to questions from the public
- Writing and speaking skills
- Desktop publishing experience
Building Maintenance
- Temporary help with grass cutting, grounds maintenance this spring 2024
- Volunteers willing to drive for things like animal transport or pick up, animal food pickup, pickups at the emergency animal clinic in Barrie
- Volunteers willing to haul heavy items and participate in management of our outdoor containers

Your participation is critical to the shelter maintaining operations and to the animals in our care. Our volunteers do a wide variety of things throughout the shelter, so if you don't see something here that suits you please contact us.
ADHS welcomes students who wish to put in volunteer hours at our many fundraising events including: The Alliston Potato Festival, ADHS Woof Walk, Pet Pictures with Santa, ADHS Kitten Showers, as well as a variety of other events.
