Lost & Found - Contacts & Tips

The Alliston & District Humane Society offers a lost and found reporting service to help reunite lost pets with their owners. See our Lost & Found blog below. Please check that the identification on your pet is legible and current. If you have moved and your pet is microchipped please update your microchip records. The lost and found reporting service is monitored by a volunteer who donates her time and long distance charges. While the ADHS is happy to provide this service it would really be appreciated if the public could please call back when their pet returns home so the file can be closed.

Every municipality has a paid canine control officer. Their numbers are as follows:

If your dog has been picked up by Canine Control Services and you would like to retrieve your dog, please call to book an appointment. Essa, Clearview and Adjala-Tosorontio: 705-321-2378.

Call your local canine control officer and make sure that your lost dog hasn't been picked up or the dog you have found hasn't been reported missing. Your local canine control officer will pick up a found dog, check it for a microchip and take it to the township pound. Dogs remain in municipal pounds for a period of time so owners can redeem them. Once the waiting period is up, the dog becomes the property of the municipality.

Your local canine control number should be the first call for everyone with a lost dog or a found dog. ADHS is the pound for the townships of Essa, Clearview and Adjala-Tosorontio. Dogs from the township of New Tecumseth come to ADHS after a five day holding period at Arcticlight Kennels in Tottenham, the pound for New Tecumseth.

Call the ADHS at 705-458-9038 and leave a message on the Lost & Found line. You will be called back and the details about the dog will be recorded. ADHS has a high success rate of uniting found dogs with owners. ADHS advertises on our website, our Facebook page and in the local Alliston Herald. Our lost and found volunteer can also provide you with the correct number for the canine control officer in your community.

Please call our lost and found line 705-458-9038 and report the description of the cat and where it was lost/found. Our lost and found volunteer will attempt to match this description to calls about lost cats.  Canvass your neighbourhood, put up flyers and post the cat's picture and description on local lost and found boards such as helpinglostpets.com

Stray and abandoned cats and kittens are a huge problem in our communities.  ADHS takes in as many cats and kittens as it can house.  If the shelter is full, ADHS can only provide suggestions for finding abandoned cats a new home, including the names of cat rescues in our area.
